I'd say we waste the most potential of any species.
Like predators do what they do, they don't #### around. They follow their generic programming to a T.
So many natural gifts like our intellect and capablity for abstract thought and self awarenes and we waste it squabbling like children over meaningless ####. (Actually children live better than we do because they're not yet entrenched in rigid and closed minded belief systems so I take that back).
What species destroys and sabotages itself like humans?
Literal effort is spent by people trying to discredit and protesting against science instead of contributing to and advancing it.
Hours of energy spent shouting from the rooftops about how politicians are scummy and getting worked up about it instead of using all that time getting involved in the system and being a voice for change.
What good is your existence if thats what you spend it on? All for what, the occasional fleeting reward of feeling right and saying "told you so" to a left leaning acquaintance or coworker online?
(I actually think this is the existence many Trump supporters choose to lead.. living to protest the left!)
What good are you doing? What are you contributing that gives it all meaning, other than petty, self-serving motives that ultimately end in you putting up walls and being at odds with your neighbors?
We all know it feels better not to be.
Are we here to be right/feel vindicated, or to find solutions and prosper?
I'd argue that the ego is the worst thing to develop in humans, but some have definitely leaned into theirs more than others.
