Players and teams should share in the flexibility. Teams not being stuck with a deal, and player not being stuck to a team.
I know it sucks for us, but I firmly believe if we have a winning product players will stay and want to be here.

The NHLPA really represents star players. So what is their incentive to give up 8 year deals into their late 30s? It would have to be something significant like way earlier UFA status so they could make more money at the start of their career. If all they change is banning contracts like you suggest then there would be less money for young players as the star players would demand max contracts to compensate. Also players don’t care about a teams flexibility that is up to the GM manage.
