People basically rushing out in droves (pardon the pun) through the path they were potentially going to take and more people potentially competing for the same resources in a potential disaster situation (supercharger).
I don't recall all the details, but there may have been a BC fire advisory at the time to try and avoid lingering in the nearby Shuswap area? Seeing the aftermath of the 2023 Kelowna fire as they decided what to do, also probably contributed to their decision to head back.

Must've been the Jasper and Golden fires that spooked them because there were no notable fires in the Shuswap that threatened any roads. Hotels were insanely expensive because many of the people from Jasper were also in the Shuswap.
As for charging, there's lots of charging in Revelstoke before Golden and Canmore after Golden plus stops along the way.
