Yeah, there were still 5.5 seconds on the clock when he got away from Garland, and rather than moving himself into position to try and get a scoring chance, he instead decided to crosscheck Garland in the head.
If his goal was to send the message that he can't be messed with, I don't think he did a very good job of that. Is any team going to look at what happened and think they shouldn't do the same thing in the same situation?
