I assume people like Perry who bring this up aren't thinking that the rules to protect the QB, while they may have been created to make sure marketable stars stay healthy, they apply to ALL QBs.
The same rule that protects Mahomes is in place for Minshew or Flacco etc.
So if we take that and apply it to the NHL, we'd make sure all centres got the calls? So the rules that apply to McDavid would then also apply to say, Kevin Rooney. Or anyone that takes on the centre role during the course of a game. So we could have Pospisil run wild over 40 minutes and then stick him at C in the 3rd to draw calls.

Football and Hockey already have equivalent rules. Football protects QBs. Hockey protects goalies.
