We do not need an abundance of picks every year. After last draft, I would suggest that we need a few quality assets in specific positions (C, LD).

If Buffalo changed their requirements and said they would give us Cozens and Byram for our entire 2025 draft picks, I would seriously consider saying yes because the best we could hope for from those picks is to find one of those guys (and then spend 5 years developing them).

Since a trade like that would never really happen, I would hope that Conroy try to make some moves this year and next year to get higher in the draft by consolidating assets. How high up the list could we move if we offered both 1sts and a second?

In general though, we need to keep in mind that having more picks is great for loading up and maintaining the prospect pipeline and hoping players develop from the system. But, if you overload it and get too many prospects then very quickly that pipeline will get jammed up at the 50 contract limit that every team has. At that point you would run into the problem of losing prospects before you can figure out if they are going to pan out because you cannot sign them to their ELC before you lose their rights.
