Then Scorp poses the question: if you do sign him, is his contract movable in 3 years? To that, I would say: almost certainly (unless his play has fallen off the table, which seems unlikely). HOWEVER, he would not be worth nearly as much at that point, at $8 or $9M is he is now. Not even close. So again, the answer is that it is best to trade him now. Also, the assets you would get now, FIT the timeline the Flames are currently trying to navigate.
