With Markstrom's record of 21-8-5 on the Devils, I think it is fair to say that he could have saved the Devils season last year, gotten them into the playoffs and given them a chance keeping the season going long enough for Hamilton to return from his injury.
As people keep pointing out with the "Trade Andersson" arguments, trading a player for more playoff runs has more value. Instead, the Devils blew up their season. They sure showed us!

Goalies are different. You can’t say that just a goalie would have gotten NJ in the playoffs. They also changed coaches and have a new system and a full camp to get Markstrom in the system.
You can’t compare what he’s doing now to what he could have done at the deadline.
