Most Canadians die in their houses. Relatively few downsize before they do. Only a quarter intend to use their home equity to find retirement.

Only 7 per cent of Canadian seniors live in nursing or retirement homes. Even among Canadians in their 80s, less then a third live in seniors facilities (and often another member of the couple still lives in the house they own).
The great majority of wealth in real estate is passed on as inheritance.
