I like Kadri and I believe he is the better player today for sure but Kadri's contract is not appealing for other teams. Father time has been known to be almost unbeatable and Kadri is quickly approaching the age where most players start to really fall off.
It simply doesn't make sense for the AVS and if you view things from a completely non-bias way, it's easy to see why Mittelstadt is worth more.

You assume that every GM is making long term plans.
Someone that is not meeting expectations might make decisions skewed to the short term gains they need.
Avs are in their contention window. If Kadri helps them get 2-3 more cracks at the Cup, who cares about the years after that if they win one?
They might be in full rebuild mode in 5-6 years and will have lots of room for buyouts.
