Whats the latest on the reason for the ban on TikTok?

I'm of the mind that most forms of social media have contributed to the current state of society. But there are large swaths of socially liberal people that are quite upset about the ban. I don't have tik tok, most of my social media consumption is this forum.

It has given marginalized people voices in the Trump/republican created chaos. It's algorithms are so strong that it allows people to "organize" ie spread information that others would seek to suppress. I think it has also helped in mental health circles, where people who are closed off can be reached or feel seen.

I have also heard/read that some of the security reasons for the ban are largely over blown, and a bigger reason for the ban is that Zuckerberg got his stinky mitts in it and lobbied hard for the ban, because it is the single greatest threat to Meta.

Anyway, I try not to spend too much time in the dark places of the internet, and aside from the addiction aspect, I've seen mostly positive things come from tik tok.

But I'm open to being corrected.
