Okay but if you think that is only a hockey thing you better check again. Basically if your parents don't have you in year round, competitive Basketball, Hockey, Baseball, Tennis, Swimming, Skiing or whatever it may be from 8-9 years old you have next to no chance of reaching an elite or even highly competitive level.

Pump the brakes on it being a hockey only thing. You can't dabble and be really good a sport now and expect to turn it into anything more than a hobby and that's due to the competitiveness of each sport, but also the demands (right or wrong) being asked of each sport and its coaching.

There's something inherently wrong in my eyes when you're asking kids who are 7-8-9 to practice 2x a week and play games often on both weekend days. Too much to early and it's not healthy for the kids or families to carry this burden if they simply want to have their kids put their best foot forward at a young age. There's next to no room now for anyone to diversify or dabble for a few years before they see what sport they are truly passionate about and it becomes more the parents choosing for them instead of the other way around.
