It's filtering up. It's still a tiny percentage but you have a fair number of visible minorities in the NHL already - Kadri, Robertson, Bahl, Dumba, Khaira, Sherwood, Spence, Suzuki, Yamamoto, Saad, Zibanejad, Nurse, Peckham, Reaves, Duclair, etc etcetc

The major issue is the cost and time commitment of putting a kid through competitive hockey. It's not only extremely expensive, but how do you do it if you and your partner both work 60 hours a week?
Hockey Canada needs to find a way to make minor hockey more economically feasible. The NCAA allowing players who've played in major juniors to still compete in the NCAA is a big step. More needs to be done.
Outreach is great. Now they need to work on making it feasible for people of all economic classes to actually play hockey.
