I see it like this it is a three piece deal and those pieces depend on when we trade him and if we retain. The positions we need to fill are a top 4 LHD and a top 2 C(prefer RH).
Now; 1st, good young roster player & 2nd (or good prospect)
w retention; 1st, good young roster player & 1st (or guaranteed prospect)
Before next season;1st, good young roster player or 2nd (or good prospect)
w retention;1st, good young prospect & 2nd (or good prospect)
Before the next deadline;1st & 2nd (or good prospect)
W retention; 1st and a top prospect
With regards to signing him I would look at/walk away from north of the (inflation adjusted) Weeger contract.
