The only way I see that happening is for promotional reasons. For example, if you lived in an area with lots of X people, then maybe trade or draft a player from that background to bring out more fans. These would be players already at an NHL level though.

I think the OP had some weird intentions with the thread... and now they have a lifetime ban, so I wasn't the only one thinking it.
An actual discussion of diversity in hockey is a different thing.
On that note:
-The greatest Flame of all time has Nigerian heritage
-Our top prospect has Korean/Indian heritage
-Our top 2 scorers have Lebanese and French Canadian heritage
-Our budding superstar goalie is American
-Our caption and longest serving player is Swedish
This team is doing pretty good.
