Yes, it is very distasteful stuff. But if Oil, or oil and gas generally, can avoid th 25% tariff then Alberta will avoid an economic disaster.
I am not convinced it will work but I can see why someone might think it will.

He's also demonstrated a gleeful willingness to screw former sycophants as soon as they are no longer useful. I'm not convinced the long-term damage to Alberta's reputation and relationship to the rest of Canada is worth the short term gain (since these tarriffs, if imposed, will almost certainly be short-lived). And that's all assuming that Smith is somehow successful, which she almost certainly won't be.
