He’s not an outsider in the eyes of the swivel-eyed conspiracists who believe the WEF, global finance, the UN, the Liberal Party, Bill Gates, China, climate scientists, and public health authorities are all part of a vast global conspiracy to crush the freedoms of average Canadians and impose a new world order of authoritarian Marxism.
While only around 10-15 per cent of Canadians fall into that paranoid camp, they’re the beating heart of the populist right in this country today (I don’t use the term ‘conservative’ because there’s nothing conservative about them). They’ll come out guns blazing for Carney (the Epoch Times and True North are no doubt working overtime crafting sinister narratives as we speak). It remains to be seen how more moderate conservatives and undecideds will respond to that tack.
