You make it sound like the NFL just became popular. It's been massively popular forever and the CFL has always co-existed. The CFL is actually drawing very good TV ratings and attendance for the most part has been flat so the league is more or less the same as it's ever been but the Stampeders attendance has been steadily eroding over the last 15 years even though they were still fielding a winning team for the majority of those years.
