Media reports that he is happy here, he might stay, the team is reluctant to trade him could very well be a proactive attempt by the Flames to control the narrative and avoid having the market manipulated against their interests as it so often was last year.

We have been almost constantly on the back foot as agents and opposing teams deflate asset values to ensure our players end up where they want to go. Conroy did as well as he could last year, but the only real slam-dunk win was the Lindholm trade. Maybe he's just trying to get out in front of this one -- which is easier to do, given only Anderson is in this situation and Conroy is not juggling a half dozen players actively looking to move on.
