Moving the goalposts is the pretty much the entire point of human civilization. To make things better, aim higher, achieve more. We invest in capital and technology to move the goal posts. Scientists, artists, philosophers, businessmen, and civil rights advocates all seek to build on what has come before.

The government should provide security -> security includes health -> health includes dental and drug coverage -> well actually people need homes and money too

The king makes the law -> non-indigenous men get to vote -> non-indigenous people get to vote -> people get to vote

Imagine if we had stopped our progress earlier at any time in the past because what was once radical became normal. I'm proud to be a goalpost mover.
