I rented one in New York.
It worked on cheaper for my 1 day need. I talked with my insurance company (dejardan) and they said it would be covered like any rental under my policy. (Do your own diligence here). It was also a much better pick off and drop off location and hours. Picked up keys from a mail box a few blocks from my hotel at 5 in the morning and dropped them off at midnight.
It was a beat up 10 year old car but I knew that looking in. The pick up drop off flexibility was worth it to me.
