I do not believe Andersson or Conroy will drag this out. I expect that he will either sign an extension by July 1 or be traded before next season to a contender.
If he is traded, I would expect it to be either at the trade deadline this season (because he has told Conroy behind closed doors that he wants to go to a contender) or he will be traded in July after he doesn't sign an extension.
My feeling is that Andersson likes being a leader in the team. He seems to really thrive with more pressure. I would be happy if he signed an extension and stayed with the team for 8 more years. With him and Weegar it would be easy to build a young D core around them.
If we do get to the point of having Weegar and Andersson signed long term, then the next question would be how to trade some of our D prospects for C depth. We have way too many good young D players for the 4 NHL spots remaining.
If our D group was projecting to become:
Weegar - Parekh
Morin - Andersson
Grushnikov - Brzustewicz
Mironmanov
Then we would be looking to deal guys like Bahl, Bean, Pachal, Solovyov, Kuznetsov to try to add to our weak position. (Just as an example)
