I think the next 21 games have a lot of opportunities for the Flames to drop in the standings.
We have more road games than home games (and we are bad on the road).
We have more back to backs than elsewhere in the schedule.
We are playing some tougher competition - if you add up the number of playoff teams over the next ~22 games (especially on the road).
The toughest segments of the schedule will be the road trip next week and the 6 game road trip right before the trade deadline against the Capitals, Lightning, Panthers, Hurricane, Flyers, and Stars. (I think most people would expect us to go 1-5 on that trip.)
I can understand why Conroy would wait to see how things play out.
