Unfortunately gale force winds that tend to happen at this time of year in the region, the winds are known as the ‘Santa Ana winds’ and they are a terrible addition to a region that has also experienced a historically low amount of precipitation which speaks to the dry conditions you mentioned. If you remember the fires in Hawaii it was the same combination of dry/drought like conditions mixing with near hurricane 1 winds that helped easily spread the fire. This fire started this morning as 3 major separate fires and it’s now 6 with 5 of them zero percent contained. Unfathomable to watch unfold.
