Helleson definitely stuck his knee out immediately prior to the collision, and the position of his knee relative to the rest of his body made a knee on knee contact inevitable, because no other part of his body could have contacted Zary before the knee. It may have not been intentional, but he modified his body position in such a way that no other outcome was possible.

Looking at the video, the way his knee bent and the way he clutched the back of his knee, it looks like a PCL and likely MCL tear. The ACL might actually be OK, which would be good news.
