A team might still think that as a 2C (which is feasible with his $7M salary) that he could still really benefit a team and might not see too much of a production dip.

I don't think this is even debatable. It's fact, and you've seen it throughout his career.
I absolutely think Kadri's current level of play would be desirable to a contender. The problem is most of them can't fit a $7M 2nd line centre in, or if they can it'd require them dumping salary elsewhere.
If Kadri wanted to leave, I think Conroy could do quite well in a trade if he were willing to eat $2M a year. I think it was Dreger who was saying on Barn Burner though that Kadri likes Calgary though, so it's likely not even a conversation that will happen.
