This is the first "leak" we've heard about any negotiation taking place. I'd wager that it's a done deal now that some figures have been put out there. With Vlad's propensity to put on weight, I've said it before and will say it again, he has the possibility of going the Prince Fielder route. Giving him a long term deal is a bad idea. But if you do 7 at a very high AAV, I'd be on board given you wouldn't be stuck with him long term. Even give him an opt out at year 5. He's got 4 or 5 good years anyway. Someone will give him a $500M contract I'm sure, but I hope it's not us with the term. If he doesn't accept, deal him. I'd guess they do a 9 year deal and call it a day.
