He does ask an interesting philosophical question about how you would truly feel to actually know, like really know, that despite all our power and technology that we are but an ant compared to some other force. To go from top of the food chain to feeling like the equivalent of a bug colony.

I think alien life being proven to exist would have a far smaller affect on people. Weather on our own planet randomly kills people without our control. Alien beings that more or less don’t interact with us wouldn’t really be a big deal in terms of changing the way humans interact with the world and each other.
