36 years ago Calgary had it's biggest cultural event on a global stage. Probably never to be surpassed. They built Olympic plaza and allowed Calgary families to purchase and dedicate a brick to personally commemorate this event.

Then decided "f-it, pull out all those bricks" with almost no thought or consideration to the living cultural memory they were stomping on.

City heritage doesn't matter.
Family legacy doesn't matter.

At the last second due to public outcry, they slapdash it and say "you gotta prove it!", and then "you gotta come get it during x-mas vacation!" and give almost no notice of either.

It's just shortsighted governing by people who clearly give zero f-s about the community. All they care about are the developer contracts they signed to grease their political standing.

And yeah... it's been a homeless camp for 20 years. Not like anyone could have taken a brick while the city was mismanaging that side either...
