Well you are comparing a 23 year old to a 34 year old not 26 to 31 but I see your point. I could also see Vancouver shopping both players and trying to understand what each brings in a return. Pettersson without a NMC in effect and due to his age should bring back the better return but turning a 30+ asset with more than 5 years left on his big money contract into something positive is also a win.
Rutherford had a timeline on when he wanted Vancouver to win and I believe it was rather absurd considering where they were when he took over and I think it was only a couple of years.
