This is a byproduct of people losing their instincts on how and where they are going when they drive. I am one of the rare people that virtually never uses GPS unless it's absolutely necessary. A little bit of homework and writing some instructions down helps a lot.
A lot of these nitwits are just braindead going by what the screen tells them. Skip drivers who consistently who walk into businesses for orders that are not located there. Uber drivers without any sense of direction. A recent taxi ride I had where I gave specific instructions where to go without an address but I knew where I was going. He was beyond defensive about getting lost. If your a professional driver in Calgary and don't have a clue about one of the most popular neighborhoods is (Marda Loop) your beyond useless. Ironically he had been a driver for years.

Half of the time, it seems they can't even follow the directions the GPS is giving them. I usually have to tell them "you'll want to get into the left lane" because they seem completely clueless that left turns need to be made from the left lane, nor are they aware that the arrow is even telling them to do such a thing.
