Are they comfortable going to $500m? That’s probably what it will take to get him signed right now. If they aren’t they have to move him now. Most teams already have their 1B options locked up.
I could see the Mets waiting to see what will happen with Vladdy, before turning to Alonso.
I would prefer to see Vladdy signed long term, but if they can’t sort it out soon, they have to move him.

As of now the Jays have 2 players signed past 2026 and that's Berrios and Gimenez. Not exactly sitting on young arbitration level talent either.
Easy to say well I guess they aren't taking our money, but at the same time if your pitching Free agents on signing for multiple years it becomes a really tough sell when you future is this cloudy. Trying not to blame everything on management but when your planning is this poor, it's hard not to.
