I think the more interesting question is why do people want to believe so badly in pseudoscience, paranormal and supernatural powers?

I’m not immune, but much better at detecting BS now.
I think because they then understand something that baffled them before. "oh! That's what it is!" We crave answers. It doesn't matter if they are correct or not, as long as it fills the need. The simpler the explanation, the more people buy in. "Magic" is about as simple as it gets. "Oh, it was magic!"
