Nah, IMO Drury was offered a role in upper management when he decided to accept his buyout from the Rangers in 2011.
Drury could have forced the Rangers to LTIR his final season, but for "whatever" reason did not use a valid medical exemption to stop the buyout. The buyout cost him about $1.667 million.
This allowed the Rangers to free up the cap space to sign Brad Richards to the megadeal.
A few years later Drury was named director of player development and worked his way up the organization.
