in kelowna most of the fire halls are only manned with one crew and they will always take their primary vehicle (in kelowna that's an engine) out any time they are out of the hall in case they need to respond to a call.
i was in superstore a couple years ago and there was a fire crew in there grabbing some stuff and they got a call. the one guy gave their buggy to an employee and said "we'll be back soon to finish shopping'" and they booked it out of there to respond to their call.
i'll always cut them a TON of slack along with any first responders.
