It’s giving up a first rounder that chaps me in the first place. It would have been nice if he could have just negotiated that the lesser of the two picks goes to Montreal but unfortunately he had a fixation on Kadri.
It’s weird on one hand you can say Montreal had him over a barrel because no teams had cap space. Yet somehow Kadri was still unsigned so the same logic should have applied to that negotiation.

Oh absolutely he was protecting the picks from being top 10, but I would think that if you had offered Floridas first in 2025 that the trade would have been accepted all the same. It seems like Treliving paid a very heavy price for risk control, especially if we lose an 11th overall pick because of it.
I still think assuming your team will finish bottom 10 and getting protection written into the conditions sends a poor message to the players (if they care).
