It only took a few videos after he was drafted to see quite plainly that I was wrong, and so were the pundits. He skates just fine, and is a good player in his own right. He's a big power-forward who uses his size to drive the net, work his way inside and to win pucks. Best of all, he has an NHL-caliber shot, and according to his coach at UMass, he has an enormous drive to improve as a player in order to make the NHL. Stylistically, and stylistically only, he reminds me a poor man's Draisaitl- a very poor man's Draisaitl. I think he could make an excellent top-6 finisher if he continues on his current path.

Suniev has improved his skating significantly from his freshman to sophomore season. Here is a video exhibiting Suniev's straight line speed. The BU defender that he blows by is Gavin McCarthy, who is a Sabres pick, and known for his great skating ability. McCarthy and Suniev had great battles throughout that game. It was very physical and showed Suniev's power game. He can also take a hit as McCarthy gave as well as received. Anyone with NESN or ESPN+ should checkout that game in the archive if they want to see Suniev.
