But there are teams that will and should sign Anderson to a seven or eight year deal. If a team is focused on the 3-4 years after his current deal expires, and they need a value plus RHD then Anderson on that term is an asset. Whoever will sign Anderson is buying the first half of the deal, understanding after year four things may get rough. That’s the cost to compete now, the kind of thing the Flames used to do.
I don’t see anything to suggest the Flames see themselves as a team positioned to win a cup now, and from the periphery it appears Anderson shares this view, so I’d have to believe Anderson is skating for another team before the beginning of next year, and possibly by the deadline if a contender steps up their offer.
