I think you wait to see if a contender overpays for Andersson’s services. With the extra year on his deal I think a lot of contenders would be interested. I bet we could retain too, but I doubt it would be half (I say about max 25%) unless the offer was substantial enough to do it.
One team I could see doing it is the Carolina Hurricanes. Would look phenomenal with Slavin, Burns is getting old, and Orlov’s cap hit will be expired. Rasmus is also a player I could see Carolina re-signing to an 8 year deal if he really likes it there.
It’s not the end of the world if we don’t deal him at the deadline. The off-season is sometimes the best time to deal because everyone starts at the same level, so middling and contending teams make deals. For instance, I could definitely see Buffalo making a pitch for Andersson in the off-season when they’ve got a lot to figure out and are tired of picking top 15.
