Look, you need drafted players, but you still need to bring in outside players, and if they're really good players, you get them because they want out from their former team (like Tkachuk) or fell out of favour (Like Bennet, Forsling, Kadri, and O'Reilly) There were all sorts of questions raised about whether Tkachuk could win, or Kadri could behave, or O'REilly could win, or whether Bennet was anything more than guy who took stupid penalties.

Those were additions to a core, which the Flames currently don't have.
