Could you approach the charge nurse here ahead of time and ask if there’s maybe a patient with a family who will also be in ICU over Christmas and consider wrapping up some gifts for them to open from Santa anonymously? Or maybe bring in some small gifts for all the patients in the unit if it’s not too many and have the nurse hand them out. Or for a roommate on the floor if you’re sharing your room, or some variation of all the above. You mentioned cardiac ward. Nothing fixes a ticker like kindness to others.
