Also here is a short list of players who have gone on to find another level once they got out of Buffalo: Sam Reinhart, Brandon Montour, Jack Eichel, Ryan O'Reily.
So it is entirely possible that the same thing happens with Cozens.

Lindholm was propped up by Johnny and Matthew and played on the top line. When they left he was a pumpkin and he’s showing he’s exactly that with Vancouver and Boston. He can’t carry a line.
The other players showed well in Buffalo, Reinhart broke out in Florida. They mostly had good underlying numbers.
It’s not like he’s surrounded by trash. Others players have seemed to turn it around.
If he didn’t have that large contract and a chance to be an overpaid 3rd liner he could be a buy low candidate.
At this point Buffalo would need to retain salary to make a deal. And they are not getting a Rasmus Andersson for him.
