They don't have stable prospects coming up, and with Bo, whose bat I truly love, becoming a FA and seemingly won't sign here, why not get a sign and trade going to a team he wants to be with? I'd put money down he'll bounce back. I'd personally sign him long term but we need him for returning prospects.
To sum it up:
- avoid lengthy free agent contracts which would tie the organization down down the road
- Sign Vlad
- Trade Bo for blue chip prospects
- Deal Gausman for blue chip prospects
A year or two you could then bring in the prospects from a Bo trade, add a bat or two in free agency, and you're moving ahead. As it stands they're not in a good place.

Isnt signing Vlad to a long term contract kind of doing what you are saying? I dont think he is going to be happy signing with a team that is selling off its assets (Bo/KG) to go into a rebuild/retool. I feel like if they want to trade Bo (whose value is at an all time low right now) that they may as well go full scortched earth and get a major haul for Vlad too. Half measures wont cut it unfortunately. They are in a tough spot.
