Ken King had a good idea in 2012, players that aren't retired number status but still deserve to be honoured can be. While the idea was good the execution was garbage, it was the original CalgaryNext. Al MacInnis is without question a retired number player, without question. Joe Nieuwendyk is the second of only two Forever A Flame members and both are jersey retirement status.
Time to resurrect Forever A Flame, fix the two members and use the secondary honour properly.
Retired
2 - MacInnis,
9 - Lanny McDonald
12 - Jarome Iginla
25 - Joe Nieuwendyk
30 - Mike Vernon
34 - Miikka Kiprusoff
Future Retired - 13 Johnny Gaudreau
Forever A Flame is open to interpretation. Long serving Flames that were not stars or even short term Flames that made a memorable impact. This is very open and each person will have wildly different views but some consensus selections for me would be Mark Giordano, Robyn Regehr and when he retired Mikael Backlund. Other players that I think would be worth the honour would be Joel Otto, Dion Phaneuf, Craig Conroy, Gary Roberts and as a coach Daryl Sutter. Would even love guys like Matt Stajan and Martin Gelinas two players who left lasting impacts on this team for various reasons. A guy like Sean Monahan in the future as well.
Wildcard is of course Theo Fluery but I don't want to turn this into a theo thread.
