You’re probably right…but it’s not just the skill he’ll bring. He has a fantastic contract. Is still a top 5 centre in the league and he would be the most famous player to be traded since Gretzky. The ticket sales and merchandise sales for trading for Crosby would be huge. Ownership for both teams would be closely involved and the actual monetary value of Crosby could be included in the discussion.

Again, that is under a scenario where Crosby makes it clear he would only be willing to leave if the Penguins needs are met in a trade. What was different with Iginla, for example, was that he was very motivated to be traded to chase a cup. I’m sure Crosby would love to chase another cup with his buddy MacKinnon but he could just as much love to stay in Pittsburgh to keep breaking records with one team and be a leader to the young players in a rebuild. Crosby has won everything there is to win in the NHL. He doesn’t need to leave.
