Backpacking. I hike the Chilkoot Trail with some friends when I was 36 and it was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Always had it in the back of my mind that I'd like to go back and do it again when I turned 50. By that time arthritis had sent into my hip and knee and now that I'm 53 I don't trust my body to get that far into the backcountry anymore.
I take my daughter camping every summer and this August we hiked back into Bow Glacier Falls, and it felt much longer and more difficult than I remember. I knew that would be the case so I did my best to be present and savour the experience with her, not knowing if that will be the last one.
