They play in Atlantic Hockey, which is arguably the worst conference in the NCAA, and it's not even close. Every year, the champion of each conference gets an automatic invite to the year-end tournament and then there are 10 at-large invites to the best teams that didn't win their conference.
In the time I've been following college hockey, I don't believe the Atlantic Hockey conference has ever sent more than one team to the tournament and their champion is usually ranked below 20th in the overall rankings. For example, right now, Bentley leads Atlantic Hockey and they are ranked 23rd overall.
A handful of Atlantic Hockey players have made it to the NHL, but Dan Hinote is the only one to make it to 200 games. Niagara has produced 2 NHLers, but they only played 1 and 12 games each.
