I was thinking about this with a more critical mindset…assuming that the oilers are who they are, and for hypothetical purposes they never change, what is it that makes them win or lose? Of course Mavi scoring highlight goals, but then racking up minuses like Halloween candy is a big part of this.

I’ve kinda gotten to the thought that with the perpetual double shifting, the teams that have the greatest success against the Oilers have a second line that’s capable of checking and scoring. We can accept that there’s likely one line per opponent that can hold their own…but it’s the second line that matters. I think teams are figuring this out and deploying the second line to defend like the first.

Why? Well, the glitter twins double shift and they play the 2 minute power play. Going up against 2 checking lines gets tiring…it’s literally a line resting while you are grinding against other defenders.

What’s different is that the team around Mavi is aging and you see the frustration. I’m not sure that it’s a certainty that he re-signs this summer.

Saw a fantastic conspiracy tweet: Jackson the former agent is forcing Mavi to leave and he will become Mavi’s agent again and make a bajillion dollars in commission. I look forward to seeing many more of these conspiracies going forward!
