He's only 24. He's making $4.8m for this season and 5 more. 11 points in 17 games so far this season.
Which is a completely reasonable contract for him. I think ideally he's a 2nd or 3rd line center but at $4.8m with a rising cap even that is a good deal even just as a 3rd line center.
Now I wouldn't want to pay a premium for him but if Carolina has interest in Vladar then that could be a great return.
Personally I don't see why Carolina would be shopping him when they have him playing on the 2nd line and 2nd PP unit right now. Flames should have taken advantage of them shopping him in the offseason.

It also seems to me intuitively (I haven't looked up the data to back it up), that centers often peak a little later than wingers.
