This is one of the reasons I always argue Hockey is the most athletic sport. All the other most popular sports (Soccer, Football, Baseball) all require running, something we all learn to do when were toddlers. Yeah, if you think about the speed hockey players are moving when they execute, it’s pretty impressive. Their speed bursts are in the 22-24 mile per hour range, which is the same ballpark as the average speed of a 100m Olympic sprinter
And as you mention, they are moving this speed AND controlling the puck
Throw a stick in Usain Bolt’s hands and he would lose a lot of speed, even without a ball or puck
No other sport comes close to the pace of play
